Workshop Arcau first French company to be awarded at the WORLD ARCHITECTURE FESTIVAL (WAF)
In October 2012, Singapore, Julien VEYRON and Xavier FRAUD conquered the jury WAF 2012 with "Salorge", the new headquarters of Pornic County.
The competition, in the category "Civic and Community", opposed our project to, among others, the "Martin Luther Church" by Coop Himmelblau (Austria), the "Keast Park Community Pavilion" by Jackson Clements Burrows (Australia) and the "Sven -Harry's Art Museum” by Wingårdh (Sweden).
The jury awarded the finess of the idea of including the modern architectural proposal in the very shape of the old salt sheds (Salorge) traditional buildings landscape features of Retz Country.
Timothy Moor, jury member and editor of Architecture Australia wrote:
"The project, which combined community and office space, was a subtle insertion into the suburb of Pornic, France… Salorge, like the houses around it, are comfortable with its surrounds. It is only a matter for the architect to rearrange the DNA that is already present. The shock-and-awe of the global architect is not always necessary.”
Arcau found here - and in beautiful way - the reward for the care with which we treat the insertion of architecture in landscape and local context.
15 November 2012, 400 people gathered to inaugurate the "Steelband” Building
The Steelband Project started in 2007 when around the same desire, five companies (accountant, real estate agent, architect, landscape architect and graphic design studio) have chosen to come together to pool their resources and develop a customized work tool part of an environmental approach.
For this purpose, they were inspired by German “Baugruppe" advocating self-promotion.
It has been a real prototype in its definition, its architectural response, in its implementation... a hand made, hand-sewn project, for each of us. Not less than five years were required to develop and achieve the building in all its details.
The Apprentice Training Centre of Quimper is the winner of Brittany’s Prize of Architecture in 2012 in the category "Learning – and Entertainment".
"The jury unanimously appreciated the consistency of the proposal and its sense of obviousness and simplicity... The project reveals the topography giving rise to a new organization; it is a transition between the existing buildings and the general landscape of the valley. Its position in the landscape, the architectural style, the contrast between the facades reveal geography.
The layout and organization of the building where each activity has a view to the north by a system of gaps and a view to the south with large windows overlooking the forest below reinforce the Intent. A set of five patios rhythms and leads this long composition by creating different forms of light and nature. Its architectural vocabulary and the strength of its integration into the environment make this building exemplary”.

Using a Environmental Management System Standard, Marc Monnier - associate architect - is responsible for the control and support, during all project phases, of the sustainable development approach. He provides a regulatory and technological surveillance as well as training to the teams.
Jean-Pierre THOMAS, Associate Engineer, is the Head of the Construction Department. His team of technicians and architects, in accordance with the design intent, is in charge of construction supervision when Arcau is directly responsible of this Phase.
The involvement of, and control by, Xavier Fraud and Julien Veyron during studies and construction is a guarantee of architectural quality.
